HISTORY OF THE CIRCUIT

Lusail International Circuit has a distinguished history as a premier destination for motor racing events. Erected within a span of one year for $58 million by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, it was inaugurated with its first major race, the MotoGP Grand Prix of Qatar, in October 2004.

The circuit's design caters primarily to motorcycle racing and is noted for its smooth track layout and the surrounding artificial grass designed to keep out sand from the adjacent desert. The circuit reached a new milestone in 2008 with the installation of a state-of-the-art outdoor lighting system, setting a new global standard for illuminated racing venues at that time.

Over the years, the circuit began to host a variety of automotive racing events. The turning point in its history was marked by the introduction of Formula One in 2021 under a decade-long agreement. To adhere to F1's rigorous requirements, the circuit underwent significant enhancements, including adjustments to curbs, pit lane entrance, and safety barriers.

Prior to Formula One's return in 2023, the circuit saw extensive renovations, including overhauls to the pit and paddock structures and an enlarged pit lane. Upgrades to the main grandstands boosted the seating capacity to 40,000 spectators, and the introduction of new track configurations added to its versatility.

Starting in 2024, the circuit is scheduled to feature prominently in the FIA World Endurance Championship calendar with the unique Qatar 1812 km race, aligning with Qatar's National Day and promising to be among the lengthiest races of the series.

For those looking to experience the excitement firsthand, the Lusail International Circuit presents a plethora of amenities and comfortable seating that affords panoramic views of the track, alongside various dining and shopping options. Fans can procure tickets from the circuit's official platform or through certified vendors, choosing from an array of seating arrangements and exclusive hospitality packages.
